Tuesday Tip - June 21, 2011 - "Double Surgeon's Knot"

Today marks the first day of summer 2011 and for many of us that means fishing is on our mind. One of the tip request I received concerned the proper way to connect to separate fishing lines.  The best way to do this is using the "Double Surgeon's Knot".  Gordon Vanderpool, r.b. wright outdoors ProStaff and owner of Turning Stone Fly Fishing, does a fantastic job of breaking down the steps involved in tying this knot.

I hope that you found today's tip useful and informative and I greatly appreciate all of you that have been leaving comments as well as e-mailing suggestions.  We are working hard to share expert advice in regards to your questions and comments.

Thanks again for your follow and I look forward to talking with you soon.

Tuesday TIp - "Dry Dropper Rig" - May 31st, 2011

This week tips once again features r.b. wright outdoors ProStaff member Gordon Vanderpool. Gordon discusses the "Dry Dropper Rig" that he fishes quite often this time of year.  While fishing with Gordon, we saw a tremendous amount of activity on the water surface -- several trout "sipping" flies as they drifted over.  However, the bite was slacking off and Gordon noted that although it appears that the fish are feeding on the surface, this is actually only accounting for about 20% of the activity.  To prove his point, Gordon switches to the "Dry Dropper Rig" and immediately began catching trout again.  As we have said in the past - this is a sport of adaptability and Gordon understands this better than anyone I know.

I hope that you enjoyed this segment and you found it beneficial. We appreciate your follow, your support, and your comments.  If you have questions about today's tip or if there is a subject you would like to us cover -- e-mail me at rb@rbwrightoutdoors.com or leave a comment below.

Tuesday Tip - May 24th, 2011 - "Fishing the jig"

Wow!  There is a lot going on here at r.b. wright outdoors.  I am thankful for your support and for your follows.

In today's segment I took a few extra minutes to introduce you to our ProStaff team. I understand that in our format a ProStaff member is more than a personality that you sit around and watch hunt or fish.  It is someone that can help you become a better sportsman.  At this point I have brought on three ProStaff members:

                                                   1) Terry Wright (Inshore)
                                                   2) Gordon Vanderpool (Fly Fishing)
                                                   3) Justin Harrell (Bass Fishing).

The decisions to bring anyone is very difficult for me.  They must not only excel in their sport but they must be proficient in instruction and understand the vision of r.b. wright outdoors.  I fully believe you will enjoy getting to know these men as well as learn from each of them.

Today's tip actually focuses on Largemouth Bass and features for the first time Justin Harrell.  Justin discusses "jig fishing" and takes you step by step through the proper modification, the equipment, and then puts his knowledge to the test with great results.

It is my hope that you enjoyed this segment, you learn from this segment, and that you are able to apply this tip to your everyday application.

If you have a tip that you would like to see featured on our Tuesday's Tip -- e-mail me at rb@rbwrightoutdoors.com - I would love to hear from you.

Thanks for your follow and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

April 5th, 2011 - Tuesday's Tip - "Tandem Nymph Rig"

I have always looked at a master fly fisherman as a “true outdoor artist.” Recently I had the privilege of fishing with such an artist. Professional guide Gordon Vanderpool of Turning Stones Fly Fishing is based in Franklin, NC. Although I have had some experience fly fishing, I asked Gordon to treat me as though I was one of clients who knew nothing about the sport. Gordon does an excellent job of explaining in detail the how, where, and why of fly fishing. I look to forward to releasing the two part video segment that includes an in-depth interview with Gordon in the next couple of weeks.

With spring in the air - fly fishing is on the mind of many of our viewers and followers. I thought it would be a great time to feature Gordon on this week’s Tuesday Tip. Make certain you watch the video below for detailed instructions on how to set-up and fish the “Tandem Nymph Rig.”

I greatly appreciate your follow and hope that you enjoyed this week’s Tuesday Tip.

I would like to hear from you - If you have a tip that you would like to see featured on this weekly segment make certain to e-mail me at rb@rbwrightoutdoors.com.

Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you.
